Công ty Cổ phần May - Diêm Sài Gòn originated from the Diêm Bến Thủy (Vinh) factory, established in the early 20th century. In 1948, the company was nationalized and became the Hòa Bình Salt Factory under the Paper – Wood – Salt Corporation. In July 2004, the company completed its equitization and was renamed Công ty Cổ phần May - Diêm Sài Gòn, abbreviated as SMG.

With a long history of formation and development, SMG has adapted to market demands and socio-economic growth by shifting its focus to investment and real estate development.
